Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, leading to a decline in motor skills and other functions. This study focuses on a specific form of MLD known as Late Infantile Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effects of a treatment called SHP611, which is administered directly into the spinal fluid, a method known as intrathecal use. The active substance in SHP611 is cebsulfase alfa, which is designed to help slow down the progression of the disease.
The study involves a single group of participants who will receive the SHP611 treatment. The main goal is to see how the treatment affects the time it takes for participants to lose their ability to move independently, as measured by a specific scale for motor function. This will be compared to data from a control group that does not receive the treatment. The study will monitor participants over a period of time to assess changes in their motor skills and other health indicators.
Participants in the study will receive regular doses of the SHP611 solution through injections into the spinal fluid. The study aims to gather information on how effective the treatment is in maintaining motor function and slowing the progression of symptoms in children with late infantile MLD. The results will help determine if SHP611 can be a beneficial treatment option for this condition.
